Blue Collar Blog Readers, or, Why You Should RSS

*I have friends who still don’t RSS.

I know. You’re thinking, “Is RSS a verb?” The answer is no. But the more important question is, “Who in the world still watches the web the old fashioned way, going to each and every site via an intricate series of manual clicks through bookmarks in their browser?” Well the blue-collar blog readers are out there, and some of them have wasted precious time today coming to tohu va bohu to see what’s new.

If you are one of these reduced speed readers who don’t RSS, please utilize the following fast track links that explain the meaning of RSS and how to get yourself riding the RSS express train. I’d start with this Primer on RSS Feeds from Desiring God and follow it up with Challies’ post All About RSS. But perhaps the best and most entertaining explanation of them all is this video titled RSS in Plain English. Watch + Learn + Subscribe = Rejoice.

Rapid transit info for the void is always available at the top of the right sidebar where you can subscribe to the RSS feed or even sign up to get emails with new posts. Happy RSSing!

I RSS. But not everything. I don’t RSS TvaB. I don’t RSS any blogs, in fact. Because I appreciate the work that has gone into making one’s blog look its best. A blog is not just a place of words. It is a place of love. And that love is displayed in many different ways: Words, Links, Videos, Colors, Fonts, and the like. If I have spent hours upon hours (and granted, those may well be wasted hours) then I want someone to appreciate the love. So I manually click, and will ever manually click, my way through the love…

Ah ha. A well argued point, TK, except that the two approaches are not mutually exclusive by definition. For example, I redeem the time as follows: first, my RSS reader of choice notifies me of new or updated posts. I quickly scan titles/first paragraphs to decide if and what I’d like to read thoroughly. Second, I open a new tab for each of the “chosen ones” in my browser of choice for all the froufrou benefits you mentioned.
