If you are not thankful for your spouse, your kids, your family, God’s temporal provisions, and certainly for Christ’s gracious, eternal salvation there is something wrong with you. Really. In fact, if you don’t give thanks for those things today and the other 364 days a year you are sinfully disregarding the Father of lights who gives us every good and perfect gift.
So for the sake of specificity as I try to enjoy the process, here are eight simple gifts from God I’m thankful for. Under the sun alone these gifts would be empty but in the Son I am redeemed to enjoy them fully:
- how Mo fits under my arms when they are wrapped around her neck, resting on her shoulders
- Maggie’s sweet scent when I kiss her cheek in the middle of the night
- Calvin’s upside down, wide-open mouth smile when I flip him over
- the sensation of a perfectly pressed key on my PowerBook
- the satisfaction of my jacket zipper catching precisely the first time
- heat blowing up my long-sleeve shirt or jacket from the panel in the truck on a cold morning
- fingers smelling like coffee after I grind the beans at night, sometimes making me wish it was morning so I could enjoy a hot cup
- when I tie my double-windsor knot and the length is perfect the first time
Happy Thanksgiving!

Great post. I’m thinkin’ that the next time I have time in front of a computer, I’ll do one with the same concept.
thanks SK
I look forward to that. And I look forward to you not only being in front of a computer typing out your list of enjoyments, but you being in front of your own Apple computer in the near future!
