My considerate sister emailed me this morning with a link to the following story about getting a Starbucks on every corner. Launi Skinner, a senior vice president in charge of Starbucks’ store development, revealed part of the reason for their recently announced goal of having 40,000 stores worldwide:
Going to the other side of the street can be a barrier.
I’ll say.
The article also claims that Starbucks is opening an average of six stores per day. Gnarls Barkley might say that’s crazy. I say that’s the way it should be.

I feel so refreshed with the sounds of free-enterprise and capitalism…oh wait…no, that’s the Starbucks Latte I’m drinking…
What more can one ask for than 40,000 locations where one can buy overpriced coffee and muffins? It doesn’t get much better than that!
The previous two comments provide a perfect picture of the two possible responses to my post: the first exposes a subconscious happiness in those who get it and the other uncovers a sarcastic bitterness by one who obviously does not.
Seriously, if they can’t put a Starbucks in the lobby of my apartment building, it’s just not worth it.
I see… trying to allay suspicion now, huh? I’m on to you!

Now what about Starbucks in church… I submit that its a bit too “seeker sensitive”…. but It would keep me coming back ;)
… now see, that was a joke.
Starbucks is definitely an undeserved earthly blessing.
I do think if One28 ran a coffee booth in the lobby on Sunday mornings we could probably at least replace the carpet, if not the entire building…
I have offered to let the church turn my office into a Starbucks. They could punch a service window from my office into the foyer for ordering and pick-up. My only requests were that one of the sitting tables be perpetually for me and then also…free coffee for life.
SKH Says “…free coffee for life.” Hmmm, I cynically submit that just might put Starbucks into Chapter 11…
