In a Nutshell

I like Clyde.

I first met Clyde in January of 1997 when he was in the High School ministry at Grace Community Church. In a nutshell, he (and his family) are great. He remembers way too many minute details, he takes way too many pictures, and he is way too particular about his food ratios. But he loves Christ, he loves to serve Christ, and he loves his wife like Christ loves the church.

We absolutely loved hanging out with he, Lisa, and Claire on Thursday night at the Higgins casa and then ate dinner together at the Red Robin last night.

In a nutshell, Clyde (and Lisa and Claire too!) is a keeper. We’re already sad (but rejoicing in spite of circumstances) that they’re headed back to CA tomorrow.

I like Clyde too. He’s a cool guy. I don’t think they should go back tomorrow.

Everything you said about Clyde is true. He is awesome… except for the fact that he totally flops when we play basketball. He just can’t handle when someone brings the tough D. But he is still great.

Flops? Matthew please. Please. :) I appreciate your kind words Sean. As I wrote in the e-mail, you are heros to us.

Matthew, don’t mention the flops and I won’t mention the double-dribbling, offensive fouls, lack of general basketball coordination :) I do love you though Matt.

    Thanks again all.

I love all of you! I’m so sad! The Sillas are gone! Matt Crawford has never visited us! It’s so sad. Tony, at least we have you.

The Sillas were indeed good to finally meet, though I didn’t have much time to get acquainted with them. Maybe next time. Hey, Claire, we could always use another kid around here!

Hello Higgins family! Long time no see! I found this site through Micah Lugg’s…how are you?? Sean, it was great to see you ever so briefly last semester when you visited Master’s! I cannot hardly believe how big your daughter has grown, she is lovely. How is Morgan? My family is actually on the verge of moving to Arkansas, to the Quinn’s church. God bless you! Elizabeth

C-Train, I must admit, I’m surprised that Clyde is a flopper. Perhaps I would have tempered my words a bit more carefully had I known that information.

Clyde, you cannot expect Ryan Seacrest (a.k.a. “The C-Train”) to understand the splagchnon of basketball.

Elizabeth, thanks for stopping by the void! Arkansas sounds like … fun?

…Did you just say, “The splagchnon of basketball?”

    I think I love it.

he truly does not understand said concept of pure emotional heart-wrenching b-ball. do you remember when we had this splagchnon discussion in the student ministries office when i was in high school?

arkansas? hello. i’d love to live in Hillary’s hometown…

How is it possible to be way too particular about one’s food ratios!!!

  12. Posted August 4, 2006 at 8:25 pm | Permalink

Matt, thanks for stopping by the void, but superfluous particularity over one’s food ratios is truly vanity and striving after wind.

I beg to differ: when received in the fear of the Lord and as a gift from our Creator, relishing the joy of food ratios can be an overwhelmingly satisfying and delightful act of worship. Biblically, of course, I’m thinking of our friend Solomon; experientially, I’m thinking of that salmon I had last night. Wow.

Blessings, Sean. Great blog. I particularly have appreciated your stuff on Ecclesiastes, which, as you can tell, has gripped my heart. Incidentally, back in the day Kurt Gebhards and I used to go on and on about 2 things: Calvinism (surprise, surprise) and food ratios!

Matt, ironically I had salmon Friday night as well, properly proportioned with rice. However, it would take the wisdom of Solomon to explain the whole sweet/salty issue to my satisfaction.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m looking for the next Waymeyer post on Faith & Pracitce. Maybe something on Calvinism…what do you think?

wow. Sean and Matt, I had a brief exchange this morning with Kurt about food ratios.

Does the big man know about this post and the comments? I think he’d be pleased.

Mr. Nutshell, I do not suppose that the “big man” knows about said post and meta-post. I do suppose that he is probably busier with bigger things than the void. Nevertheless, he is the inspiration for much of this meta. And he is no flopper.
