In a truly altruistic display of the season, my friend Clyde has recently posted his Christmas wishlist for his friends. This is not a list of things he wishes to receive from his friends, but rather what he wishes he could give to them. I am humbled to be third on his list after gifts for the C-Train and Pecadillo, but I fear his wishes will be dashed as I dance and prance all over them in this post.
It all started when I mentioned that Clyde made my day by referring to his Starbucks carafe and iPod. I also noticed at the time that he had Starbucks included in his Interests under “Dining and Drinks.” Then one day I saw a picture of his Tully’s coffee cup and from there things have just gone to the coffee pot.
Here I thought that we had something special in common. I was lead to believe that we had an uncommon connection. But out of the blue, Mr. Silla proclaimed that he had left his first love. He had the audacity to claim that he and his wife were switching as soon as possible to Peet’s.
And while there are some “switches” that I understand, moving away from the Green Siren is unimaginable. And now he wants me to move to Peet’s, and confidently asserts that I would switch too if only I tasted the goods. Well, Mr. Silla, you are good and wrong. I will not switch. Ever. You can’t make me.
And don’t think that just because you borrowed my blogging idea by playing the needs game that you will be able to restore our bond. Not even linking my sister from whom I originally got the idea will help your case.
So come back, my son. Do not give in to the dark side of the force. Make your New Year’s resolution while it is today to return to the Starbucky goodness. We will wait here, patiently, for you.
(And just in case anyone is wondering, yes I am borrowing the PyroManiac photo ideas, though I’m doing it just to fill the void.)

sean, when you are in the SCV, you and I will meet for a cup of coffee, Peet’s. You can decide then… in the meantime, may I remind you I am convinced the bean is better at Peet’s. Starbucks — the place/social gathering center/grounds of disciplemaking/study-hall/atmosphere/vibe is far > Peet’s. So I like Starbucks products and their vibe, I even like their coffee. But compared to the greatness of Peet’s coffee, I have one thing to say, “Don’t fake the funk on a nasty dunk.” So, don’t fake the funk. Starbucks is still open later, easier to find
:) To clarify, I love all Higgins’s, I still love Starbucks and I love Washingtonians. I also still love the Ford Probe.
To the man who recommended such great reading material to me as a young teenager, I sincerely apologize and I request your mailing address (just e-mail it to me [clyde.silla(at)gmail.com]), so I can send, not a half lb, but a full pound of Peet’s best.
so it’s more about the bean[not Mo’ bean, java bean] I still would carefully and boldly proclaim Starbucks has changed the way we socialize…
Clyde, I would love to have some coffee with you, and though it will be some sacrifice on my part to do so over a cup of scab joe, I suppose that since I am a living sacrifice I can handle it. I anticipate my next trip south around the beginning of March for the Shepherds’ Conference so perhaps we could get together then.
Thanks for the quick comments and affirmation of your love. You and your family have ours as well!
Borrow away. Why reinvent the wheel? I like the new site by the way.
Merry Christmas to all in the Higgins home (this includes those whose names are not Higgins.)
