We are glad to be back home and I am glad to be reconnected to an internet firehose. Since I don’t have the attention span to write a single-focused blog I decided to post some menial minutiae on the last day of June. If you, like the Wayfarer, doubt the legitimacy of the word minutiae, you should pay more attention to the finer points of the English language. Minutiae are the small details, and menial minutiae are the routine, humdrum details. Here they are in no particular order:
A major blogging catastrophe has been averted. While I was away the Pyromaniac considered killing the BlogSpot. I was ready and willing to start a “Save the BlogSpot” campaign, but thankfully such an expenditure of resources was unnecessary as the spot has received a respite from retirement.
A major calendar catastrophe was not averted. The Pyromaniac preached to our local body in Marysville, WA a couple Sundays ago, but I was trying to reform Ripley, WV simultaneously. I was sad to miss his message and perhaps next time providence will allow me to be in town to hear his insults from the pulpit personally.
And thanks to everyone who prayed for our trip east. Though time will tell, it seemed like God’s Spirit worked mightily at the FBC summer camp as a number of students professed Christ — and Christ alone — as their Lord and Savior. It was a another week for soli Deo gloria.
It is nice to know that people read the skh weblog, even if they don’t comment. Apparently, DWC not only reads but he even listens. He is taking a recommendation of mine with him to Africa. Really.
By the way, my mention of Dave’s link is kind of my own blogspotting. Alas, that is the only spotting to do.
Finally someone other than MJL or TK has left a comment. Rob Wilkerson is a friend from TMS who sold me his Honda scooter (that I eventually sold to JBarnts). He seems a little caught up with Phil Johnson bobble-heads but he may make the blogroll at some point anyway.
The new iTunes is ready and supports podcasting out of the gate. I’m only subscribed to three casts so far, but don’t let that make you think I’m not excited.
Though he admits he is biased, Jesse’s message last night was a helpful reminder to run to Christ. I was meditating some more on that idea this afternoon while reading this week’s assignment in Future Men wherein Doug Wilson states:
“Christian liberty is nothing other than slavery to God” (p. 80).
And that reminded me of the inspired explanation:
Romans 6:17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
Thank God that He has made us slaves to righteousness. I pray to God He will keep making us slaves to righteousness.
- Here is part of a provoking reflection on worship by Louie Giglio:
“[H]ow do you know where and what you worship? It’s easy: You simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money, and your allegiance. At the end of that trail you’ll find a throne, and whatever, or whoever, is on that throne is what’s of highest value to you. On that throne is what you worship. Sure, not too many of us walk around saying; ‘I worship my stuff. I worship my job. I worship this pleasure. I worship her. I worship my body. I worship me!’ But the trail never lies. We may say we value this thing or that thing more than any other, but the volume of our actions speaks louder than our words.”
Okay, two more things. I am not numbering them because that would make eleven. Ten is alright and eleven is okay, but nine is my favorite number — also the number of Roy Hobbs, the southpaw in my favorite movie The Natural. That’s right, the final minutiae are that my favorite number is nine and that my favorite movie is The Natural.

I would like to note that this may be my first comment on your blog. I’m not quite sure. My memory doesn’t serve me too well today. Anyway, it’s about time! Well, those were very interesting minutiae! And yes, I looked the word up. It is the plural form of “minutia.” So you were right, although your last use of the word was plural instead of singular. But I point that out simply to be nitpicky. :)
But moving on, your many Blogspots were dizzying! I tried to follow them all until I found myself much too distracted and realized that this blog entry would take way too much time to read if I kept getting diverted. I’m finding that my blog community is very small.
By the way, those quotes were great — very good reminders of things recently taught. All that to say, the menial minutae got my brain buzzing.
Thanks, GraceGirl, for the comment and the correction. I’ve already edited the post in order that each minutia would be accurate on the skh weblog.
You know, after a second look, I realized that that I mentioned two things (my favorite number AND my favorite movie), so the plural form was necessary. The actual problem is that my verbs and pronouns were singular. Anyway, I decided to change the whole thing to make it clear.
Its good to hear you ramble once again. Since it has been a while since we have heard anything at all.
I do the minutiae. I’m a believer.
